Education Requirements

Someone pursuing a career in education must do the following:

• Earn their bachelors degree in elementary or secondary education which will take four or five years typically.
• Complete student teaching for a semester.
• Pass state certification tests in the area you want to teach.
• Continuing education is necessary to keep up with current education standards. Most of this will be in the form of professional development.

Salary

Teachers definitely don't get into education for the money! In most states your salary is determined by your level of education and years of teaching experience. Schools have a chart and you receive your step salary in accordance with years teaching.
